Harsh Jani (BEng 2011)

Harsh Jani is the founder of online recycling platform Bandyit.
When I was applying to Cardiff University, it was ranked in the top five for Mechanical Engineering. I visited the University for an open day and really liked the campus, the city and the structure of the University.
On completing my degree in 2011, I worked as a consultant at Keyence and Rittal, helping companies automate their processes and their production lines.
From there, I went on to set up my own business, Bandyit Ltd, an online platform developed for exchanging clothes, electronics or anything else that you don’t need any longer with friends or people nearby.
At Cardiff University, I learnt to combine theory with practical skills.
In my second year, I was part of a team that designed and built a wing box for an aeroplane. The project encouraged us to use skills we had learnt in the classroom and apply them to solving real world problems. I was chosen to present our finished model to the judges. This experience helped me in my current position, as we present our ideas on the stage and in media interviews.
We live in a world of exponential technological advancement. Being ‘successful’ has been re-defined over the last few decades. We now have the power, the tools and the capacity to help one another like we have never had before.
Our dream is for a better future, in which our company plays a massive role in encouraging people to recycle goods and educating them on environmental issues that relate to behaviours of mass production and mass consumption.
