What’s New in Learning Central? Navigation and Styling Options

9 October 2025

Blackboard Ultra continues to evolve, and some recent updates bring stylish new possibilities for the presentation of Learning Materials in Learning Central. Here’s a quick look at what’s new and how you can make the most of these features:

Enhanced Documents with Block Styling

Documents now offer new Block Styling options for individual content blocks. These allow you to visually differentiate sections of your document, opening up a whole range of stylistic possibilities. You can add a splash of colour with a standardised icon and a border, to draw attention to different types of information.

There are four styles to choose from:

  • Question: blue
  • Tip: yellow
  • Key Points: Purple
  • Next Steps: Green

To apply a style, simply edit a content block and click the paint palette icon in the editor.

Learning Central Documents are now printable and offer significant accessibility advantages over downloadable files. See Learning Central Essentials for more details on:

  • Creating Documents
  • Adding and editing Content Blocks and Grid Layout
  • Converting Word, PDF or PowerPoint to Documents
  • Adding inline Knowledge Checks.

Learning Module Table of Contents

Learning Modules now automatically include a Table of Contents in student view. (Coming shortly to Instructor view.) This is a big improvement for student navigation, giving a clear overview of the content and allowing them jump directly to any section. It also indicates student progress through the Learning Module.

The pages of content now take up the full width of the remaining screen on most devices, reducing unnecessary white space.

You don’t need to do anything to enable this – it’s now standard in all Learning Modules.
