Success for our On-Campus Intern
28 July 2025
Taf Kunorubwe, Honorary Research Associate in the School of Psychology, supervised student Caitly O’Leary as part of our On-Campus Internship Scheme in 2024. In this blog, Taf reflects on the project and its success.
Caitlyn did an outstanding job on a project exploring the challenges clinicians face when using interpreters in psychological therapy. She demonstrated real initiative and produced work that was both thoughtful and impactful.
We’re thrilled to share that we’ve been invited to present a poster on this research at the European Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies Congress. This is an incredible opportunity to showcase the project and the excellent work being done here at Cardiff University. It’s a significant moment for Caitlyn to present at an international conference and a great example of the valuable experiences these internships can provide for students.
From my perspective, having an intern like Caitlyn has been incredibly beneficial — her contributions have enhanced both the quality and momentum of the research, while also bringing fresh ideas and energy to the project.
We’re thrilled to share that this project has also been accepted and published in a peer-reviewed journal. This publication highlights important insights into the barriers faced in interpreter-mediated therapy within NHS Talking Therapies. We believe these findings will contribute to improving access and quality of care for patients who rely on interpreter services.
View the paper here: Exploring staff experiences and perspectives on barriers in interpreter-mediated therapy within NHS England’s Talking Therapies.

It’s a fantastic outcome that reflects the quality of Caitlyn’s work and the value of the Undergrad Research Internship experience.
I want to especially thank Caitlyn for all her hard work, dedication, and the professionalism she brought to the project — it truly made a difference.
A huge thank you again for running such a valuable scheme and for your ongoing support.
All the best,
Taf
