On-Campus Internship Case Study: Rhiannon Jones

29 April 2025

In this blog post, Medicine student Rhiannon Jones tells us about her 2024 On-Campus Internship titled ‘Interventions to support children following familial coercive control: a systematic review.’

Initial thoughts

I have an interest in research, and having support while doing this seemed like a brilliant way to gain some further experience to help my career in the future.

I also have an interest in mental health, and having previously helped in a rapid review on a similar topic, I thought this would be a great way to increase my knowledge further.

The experience

Although my internship was shorter than others (6 weeks), the support I had through this was fantastic. The team I worked with was incredibly helpful and were always available to help if needed.

It was important to me to increase my experience in research, as this is not something I’m taught through my university course. Having this experience, and assisting in publication, will be of huge value when applying for jobs in the future.

The most challenging parts were learning new software, and in particular, learning new processes to do with evidence collection. But during this, my team were very helpful in teaching us how to do this.

As I am studying medicine, the next steps for me will be applying to foundation posts and begin my career as a doctor.
