Enhancing Inclusivity: Exploring Mentimeter’s Accessibility Tool

31 March 2025

This blog has been written by Kamila Brown, a Learning Technology Assistant at the Learning and Teaching Academy.

Accessibility Check will help you quickly assess the inclusivity of your Mentimeter presentation. Where necessary, it will offer you suggestions for improvement. I have started using it for my Menti presentations, and here I will share more details.

How it works

It provides you with an overall accessibility score and detailed insights into key factors such as text contrast, alternative text for images, and other accessibility considerations. It also offers practical recommendations to improve each of those aspects, ensuring your presentation is accessible to your audience.

Let’s look at the accessibility check in my presentation:

The overall accessibility score for my presentation looks fine, but the green bar hasn’t fully expanded. This means I can investigate which factors require attention:

By clicking on the chevron button next to each feature, you can access the detailed information for each potential improvement. In my presentation, four slides which include images don’t have alt text. I can click on one and it will take me straight to each slide that needs alt text added.

The contrast is also showing as low for some of the visualizations in my presentation. Unfortunately, the limitation here is that Menti doesn’t specify which slides have those issues. If this is the case, I tend to go back to the visualizations in my presentation and check them individually using an online tool called WebAIM. Alternatively, you can deploy the accessibility checker after creating each slide in your presentation.

Finding the accessibility check

You can access it by opening the Settings of your presentation (represented by the cogwheel icon) and selecting the Accessibility at the bottom of the menu:
