Celebrating Our Internship Exhibition

16 December 2025

This year, we welcomed over 150 interns to our summer internship scheme, covering an incredible range of topics and disciplines.

At the end of each cohort, we host an Internship Exhibition—a showcase of the outstanding work produced during the summer recess. In just eight weeks, our interns consistently deliver high-quality projects, many of which go on to be published or presented at conferences.

The exhibition is always a highlight of the year, which we were delighted to host it in the Centre for Student Life. The atmosphere was vibrant and inspiring, with interns presenting their work to staff, students, and members of the public.

As part of the exhibition, I was delighted to host the Lightning Talks, where 13 interns shared their projects and experiences in two-minute presentations. This year’s talks concluded with a lively Q&A session, offering deeper insight into the impact of the internship experience.

One intern shared how the scheme helped reduce her anxiety about engaging in research, while another spoke about the sense of community it fostered between students and staff. These reflections truly highlight the transformative nature of the internships.

Thank you

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the supervisors and schools for the time they invest in hosting a placement over the summer. It is truly brilliant that our staff are passionate about the student experience and seek out opportunities to host a placement. I also want to thank our students for putting themselves forward for these opportunities and for investing so much of their effort into making the projects a success – the celebration event was a time to celebrate what you have achieved.

I wish you all the best of luck this year and hope the experience you gained this summer will serve you well in your studies and beyond.
