THESEUS

Modelling the impact of Climate Change on Microclimate System of Coastal Zones (THESEUS)

THESEUSLogo_transTHESEUS will examine the application of innovative combined coastal mitigation and adaptation technologies generally aiming at delivering a safe (or low-risk) coast for human use/development and healthy coastal habitats as sea levels rise and climate changes (and the European economy continues to grow). The primary objective is to provide an integrated methodology for planning sustainable defence strategies for the management of coastal erosion and flooding which addresses technical, social, economic and environmental aspects. THESEUS objectives are governed by three specific goals, which concern: (a) Risk assessment, (b) Response strategies and (c) Applications.

My Role:

  1. To setup POLCOMS model over the south-west waters of the UK, running model with IPCC scenarios for short (30 years), medium term (60 years) and longer term (90 years  to 2100) wave climate predictions, and analysing the data for long-term wave changes in the areas.
  2. To use the process-based COAST2D Model for studying the morphological response to the v-shaped submerged breakwaters as innovative coastal defence structures.
