Exploring the Heart of Media – A Journey Through BBC Cymru Wales with a Cardiff University Student Ambassador
3 October 2023Hey there, fellow media enthusiasts! If you’ve ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at the renowned BBC Cymru Wales and how it’s intertwined with Cardiff University’s prestigious School of Journalism, Media and Culture, you’re in for a treat. As a Cardiff University international journalism student, I embarked on an exciting journey through the iconic BBC Cymru Wales building, and I can’t wait to share the adventure with you.
Unveiling the BBC Cymru Wales Experience
Situated adjacent to our university’s state-of-the-art media facilities, BBC Cymru Wales emerges as a vibrant nucleus of creativity and journalistic prowess. Renowned as the “Oxford of the media world,” Cardiff University’s media programs elevate our educational journey. The close proximity to BBC Cymru Wales not only enhances our theoretical understanding but infuses it with real-world applicability. This unique fusion transforms our academic experience, providing an extraordinary edge. Here, students aren’t just recipients of knowledge; they are immersed in a dynamic intersection of academia and industry, fostering a rich tapestry of learning where innovation and education intertwine seamlessly.
A Curious Student’s Quest
My curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to explore the BBC Cymru Wales building firsthand. Luckily, they offer tours to the public, and students can snag tickets for just £10. I couldn’t resist and embarked on not one, but two tours. The first was on a weekend, with fewer people around, but my burning question remained: What’s the buzz like during a typical workday?
Behind the Scenes at BBC Cymru Wales
The BBC Cymru Wales tour takes approximately 90 minutes, and a piece of advice – don’t drink too many liquids before, as there are no bathroom breaks! The friendly tour guides led us through vast studios filled with state-of-the-art cameras capable of mind-blowing augmented reality effects. Imagine walking into a world where news anchors seem to appear out of thin air – it’s a sight to behold!
And here’s a little secret: you might even bump into a familiar face, as some stars work their magic right there in the studios. I won’t spoil the surprise; you’ll have to experience it for yourself.
