Best Places for Students to Enjoy the Sun in and Around Cardiff

Now that exams are over and summer has officially begun, students can often feel conflicted over how to spend the weeks off they’ve worked so hard to earn. With the United Kingdom and Wales in particular rarely getting any sunshine students can often feel conflicted on how to spend these precious few days in the sun. Here are a few of the places in and around Cardiff that are perfect for enjoying the few days Cardiff is showered in sunlight.

Roath Park

A favourite with students in the later years of their degrees Roath park, situated just a few minutes-walk from Roath is a perfect place for students to relax and enjoy the sunshine. The reason why students in the later years of their degrees usually go to Roath park is due to the fact that many students after their first year live in Roath, making the park not only a lovely afternoon out but one that is very close to their house. On a warm summers evening you will find students of all ages and backgrounds enjoying the park. Whether it be sharing a drink, having a picnic or a kickabout Roath Park is one of many green spaces to enjoy the summer within the city.

The Woodville

The Woodville is one of many pubs within Cathays, but it is arguably most known for its multiple beer gardens, making it a favourite for Cardiff University students. Offering a great selections of food and drink, The Woodville is a perfect spot for Cardiff University students to enjoy a summers evening catch up with some friends or a brunch with some course mates.

Bute Park

Much like the aforementioned Roath park, Bute park is a favourite of Cardiff University students looking for somewhere to enjoy a summer’s day. The largest park within Cardiff Bute park offers copious amounts of space for Cardiff students to enjoy the weather, with the neighbouring Pontcanna Fields being a perfect alternative. Bute park stretches all the way from the Museum by the University campus up to the Talybont Halls of Residence making it accessible to all students of the university. Offering plenty of sporting facilities such as cricket fields and rugby posts there is plenty on offer for students interested in social sports on a summer’s afternoon.

Juno Lounge

A less well-known place for students to enjoy a summer’s day within Cardiff is Juno Lounge. Located in Roath, Juno Lounge is a bar and restaurant with a lovely rooftop terrace, adorned with brightly coloured umbrellas and deck chairs. Offering a wide selection of food and drink there is something for Cardiff University students here on a hot summers afternoon. Located in Roath it is perfectly located for students that live in Roath and the surrounding area and whether you’re brunching with some friends or meeting a mate for a catchup, Juno Lounge remains a must for Cardiff Students in the summer.
