We will host a 3 day non-residential workshop for AS level students interested in continuing on to Physics degrees.
Taking place in Cardiff University School of Physics and Astronomy the workshops will run 26-28 June, including activities and lectures provided by Cardiff University staff and students.
The event will run 10:00 – 16:30, with refreshments from 09:30. A more detailed programme is available here.
Workshops will be targeted at A/S (year 12) students and provide an insight into Physics beyond A-level, including:
- Gravitational Waves: detector technology and data analysis
- Astronomy: Explore the properties of stars and how to design a space telescope
- Lasers: Build a laser interferometer and measure its properties
Talk topics include groundbreaking research done here in Cardiff, such as:
- Gravitational Waves
- Treating water with light
- Medical Physics: Brain Imaging
- A Beginner’s Guide to Black Holes
- From Waves to Quantum Physics
- The Physics of Music
- Robotic Telescopes
- Infrared Astronomy
- Detecting submillimetre light
