Results Day is less than two weeks away and I can imagine that the nerves are truly beginning to settle in – except those lucky people with unconditional offers! My results day was two years go and I can still remember the experience like it was yesterday. There is no way to describe the nerves I felt for weeks before my results came out. It isn’t the same as GCSE because, even those they decided if you got into 6th Form or college, A-Level results decide whether you get to go to University! The days leading up to my results were beyond stressful. So, if you’re feeling stressed out, nervous and beyond emotional, do not worry, it would be weird if you didn’t.

The night before results day I couldn’t sleep. I was tossing and turning all night, I am not sure if it was the fear that something had gone wrong, or the excitement that something had gone incredibly right. I had two platforms for looking at my results, one was going into school and physically opening my results and seeing what grades I had. Second option was to log directly onto the UCAS website to see if I had got my offer from Cardiff University confirmed. Most people decided to log onto UCAS straight away before coming into school, so that they could be prepared to face teachers, grades, parents, etc. However, I wanted to know my results first. I think it just delayed knowing my fate.

All morning I was extremely excited, but as soon as my friend and I drove into school – the nerves came rushing back like a wave. My friend had decided to wait and open her grades up first too. Except, as soon as we parked, she got a text message from Portsmouth University confirming her place! She was crying with happiness and I could not contain how proud and happy I was for her. But this meant that my nerves were now a hundred times worse. I didn’t know if I had got into Cardiff University? I didn’t know if I had the required grades yet!

Entering school and seeing people sat around tables with their envelopes open in hand was a surreal experience. Students I had grown up with for the past seven years were travelling all around the UK to attend their favoured Universities. Aside from the nerves beforehand, it was a really, amazing day. Being able to congratulate people for working so hard for the past two years and seeing them being able to go to the University of their choice was crazy.

Long story short, I opened my results, I checked my UCAS application and spent the rest of the day bathing in relief and joy. I don’t think I would ever want to relieve another results day like the ones I had during school because of how stressful and nerve-wrecking they were. But, once everything is said and done – it is a wonderful memory you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life. So, despite the nerves now, it will all be worth it afterwards.

Now, not everyone’s results day is going to be the same. Some people don’t get the results they need, and some people get better results. One of my best friends came to Cardiff University through clearing. She had all the support of our 6th form teachers and she now couldn’t imagine having gone anywhere else. It is exactly the same with friends I know who attended their insurance choice University. At the end of the day, you can only do the best you can do. And now, everything has been said and done. So, my advice to you is to just to sit back now and enjoy the journey.
