A new chapter

12 Mehefin 2018

I am trying to look for a part time job over summer so I can pay rent for my new flat where I will be living when I start my masters degree in September. It seems so simple just applying for loads of jobs on online sites and handing in CVs but it’s hard not to get downhearted when rejections keep flooding my inbox. ‘Overqualified’ and ‘unfortunately’ are words I am tiring of!

I have no doubt that I’ll be able to find a job because I’m a competent person and I really need one and nothing drives a person like need. I’ve already started planning for my degree in September to pass the time, I have to learn simple shorthand before the course starts so that’ll keep me busy!

Over the summer I also have some work experience at a newspaper and a spattering of holidays and gigs to attend. As a student, if I can still claim that title (graduation isn’t until next month) it’s important to enjoy the time off, especially if you’re staying in the city over summer. It’s hard not to focus on the year ahead as a student, but just keep it in the back of your mind and have some well deserved time to chill. I’m going to see foo fighters, ed Sheeran and my favourite band Biffy Clyro all before my course starts, I’m also going to a jazz prom in St.Davids (can check out the graduation venue when I’m there – I already have my dress!) and I’m off to Devon for a week and skipton for a few days as well as going to a wedding. While enjoying all of this I will still be focusing on the task to come, I truly believe that my masters degree will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done and I don’t want to let myself down, so I’ve already bought some books and I’m prepping to become my best academic self and really delve into this course, mixed feelings of anxiety and excitement!
