UEB 2 March 2015
2 March 2015- The PVC for Student Experience and Academic Standards updated UEB on the results of the recent Student Union election. The Student Union elected officers’ team had now been announced and for 2015/16 and it will be 86% female and 14% male. The exact opposite gender balance of the current year. Claire Blakeway has been elected as President.
- UEB received a business case for a proposal the University to partner Cardiff Council in a bid to re-develop the Old Library in the city centre. If successful the bid will see the Old Library house a new Welsh-language cultural, learning and social space as well as the Cardiff Story museum. The proposal represents an opportunity for further working with Cardiff Council and will provide the University with a city centre site for engagement with the public; teaching and meeting space would be open during the evenings and at weekends and it was important to ensure the site was properly branded. UEB agreed, that subject to the proposal being funded by Welsh Government, that the University should become a core partner for an initial period of three years.
UEB received the following regular reports
- Director of Communications and Marketing Monthly Report. The report noted media relations campaigns such as coverage on Professor Peter Elwood’s Caerphilly Cohort study appeared on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, the announcement that Professor Sally Holland as the new Children’s Commissioner for Wales and media coverage secured for a visit by HRH the Princess Royal to celebrate fifty years of occupational therapy education in Wales. The report also updated on the fringe events and exhibition stands at the Welsh political party conferences.
