Local charity donation funds pancreatic cancer research associate

When Welsh TV and radio personality Shan Cothi lost her husband to pancreatic cancer in 2007 she set up a charity in his name called Amser Justin Time. Tonight the charity made a landmark six figure donation to fund the work of a pancreatic cancer research associate, Dr Sean Porazinski, at Cardiff University’s European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute. It was a moving occasion and a very concrete example of how Cardiff’s international reputation in this field enabled a Welsh charity to give locally but have global impact. Professor Alan Clarke, Director of the Institute, explained that pancreatic cancer has one of the lowest five-year survival rates in Europe. “It is incredibly difficult to diagnose until it is almost too late for the patient. We are determined to help change this and we rely on donations such as those from Amser Justin Time,” he said.
