Your experience abroad

Tell us about your global opportunity—where did you go, and what did you do?
I went to Freiburg University in the city of Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. Study abroad, mainly studied politics and international relations but also German language classes.

What surprised you the most about your host country/programme/time abroad?
Country – the love for paperwork and cash; lots of places did not accept card.
Programme – length of the assessment papers and no lectures, only seminars.
Time abroad – how close the black forest was.

What is the one thing you miss about your time abroad?
The beer

A bit about you!

What’s something you’re passionate about outside of your studies?
Tennis and the gym

What’s your favourite place on campus/in Cardiff?
CSL

If you could live anywhere in the world for a year (a dream destination), where would it be—and why?
Berlin or Hong Kong. Berlin is just a vibe; Hong Kong: the food is amazing, and life never stops there; it’s also a beautiful city.

What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?
I once took the last soviet sleeper train in Europe, where, when it crosses the border, they pick each carriage up and change the wheels at 3 am.

Reflections and Advice

Describe your global experience in three words
Unique, fun, and eye-opening

What advice would you give to students considering a global opportunity?
Just do it if you’re on the fence. You’re not going to regret it. Go with an open mind and just enjoy every bit of it.
