Your experience abroad

Tell us about your global opportunity—where did you go, and what did you do?
I completed a year of studying abroad at the University of Konstanz in Germany. I continued my political studies, alongside learning German and trying new subjects outside of politic

What surprised you the most about your host country/programme/time abroad?
I was surprised by how quickly Konstanz felt like home to me. Once I had settled in, I had the best time I could have hoped for and met the most amazing people.

What is the one thing you miss about your time abroad?
The people I met! And being able to swim in the lake (the Bodensee) whenever we wanted.

A bit about you!

What’s something you’re passionate about outside of your studies?
Yoga – I’m also part of the Yoga Society here in Cardiff

What’s your favourite place on campus/in Cardiff?
Roath Lake

If you could live anywhere in the world for a year (a dream destination), where would it be—and why?
I would love to live in Canada, close to Toronto – my grandparents spent a bit of time there and I would love to see what I have seen in their photographs from their travels.

What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?
I didn’t go abroad at all until I was 18 years old.

Reflections and Advice

Describe your global experience in three words
Joyous, exciting, illuminating

What advice would you give to students considering a global opportunity?

If you are not sure whether to go for it or not, your decision should 100% be to do it. It could be the best week, month, few months, or year of your life so far. These opportunities are too good to miss!
