Professional perspectives into dementia and technologies

30 October 2026

The study’s Professional Advisory Group (PRAG) consists of representatives of the Alzheimer’s Society, Social Care Wales, Pembrokeshire County Council Telemedicine department, Down’s Syndrome Association, British Deaf Association, Action for Deafness, Nubian Life and Sight Life.

During a consultation with professional representatives we discussed the project’s scope and enquired about any ethical concerns regarding conducting observations of technology use in people’s homes. The professionals brought our attention their clients’ concerns about technology replacing human contact, difficulties keeping with changes in technology and existing technologies used by people with sensory impairments. We also discussed the Minimum Digital Living Standard (MDLS) which defines the basic internet access, equipment, and digital skills that UK households need to live, work, and participate safely in a modern digital society.

These useful insights will inform our recruitment materials and strategy.
