The challenges of being a Post-Doc….

22 August 2013

I have just read this blog piece by my friend Dr Bill Wilkinson who has resigned as a researcher in  Cardiff University. It’s a bit depressing but very personal and very honest. On a more positive note he is starting teacher training and sounds excited about that.

Reading Bill’s piece reminded me of another piece penned by a Cardiff University Post-Doctoral Fellow, Dr Kayleigh Dodd. It was entitled “I am a research scientist, and that’s why I drink”. Again it’s a bit depressing and cynical but it’s funny and very well written. It got 245 comments and was  widely read.

These two stories illustrate the challenges of being a post-doctoral researcher. They make for good reading. Thanks to both Bill and Kayleigh for sharing the stories.
