Data Science Academy

4 November 2019

Last week we welcomed our first cohort of students to the newly launched Data Science Academy.

This joint collaboration between the School of Computer Science and Informatics and the School of Mathematics is the home to three innovative postgraduate programmes; MSc Cyber Security, MSc Artificial Intelligence and MSc Data Science and Analytics.

The DSA aims to offer unique opportunities at postgraduate level by teaming up with industry for students to work on ‘real life’ projects, and gain the practical skills currently in demand from companies who are looking to recruit graduates.

The freshly refurbished home for the DSA is located on the third floor of South in Queens Building and named The Turing Suite. With a new Barco AV system and provision of Linux laptops, the new space allows flexibility and innovation in the delivery of interactive teaching.

The Turing Suite will seat 150 people and it is very encouraging to see this new space at capacity as a record number of students have enrolled on these exciting degrees.

An event is planned for the end of November when key figures from industry will be invited to the new Turing Suite to learn more about the DSA model and how they can get involved.

Now it’s up and running the team are turning their attention to exploring options for future course development and expansion across disciplines.
