After convening MEAD for 7 years, Professor Sin Yi Cheung is stepping down from this role in order to concentrate on her important responsibilities as Director of Research in the School of Social Sciences, among other commitments. Sin Yi will continue to play a key role in the MEAD team, but has passed the convenor torch to
Dr Natalie-Anne Hall.
Natalie-Anne is a Lecturer in Social Sciences whose research focuses on the role of digital media in exclusionary politics, particularly around race and migration. In addition to working on the UK context, she also studies the Japanese context and is a fluent Japanese speaker. She is the author of
Brexit, Facebook, and Transnational Right-Wing Populism (Lexington Books, 2023) and co-editor of
Migration, Aging and Japan’s Sustainable Society (Routledge, 2025). Natalie-Anne is also a member of the Cardiff Interdisciplinary Research on Anti-fascism and the Far Right network (CIRAF). She is excited to continue MEAD’s important work of promoting research on race/racism and migration and strengthening networks between scholars in these and related areas, across Wales, the UK and beyond.
We have an exciting programme of seminars and workshops for the coming academic year, which we look forward to sharing with you in the coming weeks.
