'See you, So long, Goodbye'

11 Mehefin 2014

Hey there! I hope you’ve all had a great week and have managed to enjoy the sun in between these awful showers! As I mentioned in my last blog I’m leaving for New Jersey on the weekend so I’m typing this in a very empty looking room whilst trying to sort out the final details for the trip.

So today has been mega busy, I’ve been assisting with the open recitals backstage this afternoon but managed to see another Welsh National Opera dress rehearsal this morning. The final year’s open recitals have been a gentle reminder of the talent of the music school in Cardiff. From pianists to singers and guitarists to violinsts there has been such a variety and the standard of all of the musicians has been enormously high. Myself and a couple of other second year students have been working backstage to ensure everything runs to time and to plan and so we’ve enjoyed the luxury of listening to all recitals. Before this though, I was down at the bay watching ‘Usher House’ by Gordon Getty and Debussy’s ‘The fall of the House of Usher’. It really is such a treat to be able to go and see these incredible productions completely free and they are always so inspiring. Usually any reason to get inside Wales Millennium Centre is good enough for me but WNO really are something else.

I can’t believe I have now finished second year! I mean that went by in a flash but it was such a bonus to finish this manic year on a real high following the recital. After four written exams and a practical exam it is almost time to bid farewell to Cardiff until September and begin work on finals (omg!) Until then I certainly have an action-packed couple of months ahead of me in New Jersey and a really exciting experience to tackle.

I hope I’ll be able to write a small blog with how I’m getting on and update you with the latest news whilst I’m in the US. But before then, I’d like to thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and in fact all of my blogs I’ve written for Insiders. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them. I wish you the best summer and hopefully catch you in a month or so.

Signing off,

Jordan
