‘A Spotlight on Sŵn Music Festival’ Report Launch3 April 2017
Last year I helped to set up the Festivals Research Group in the Creative Cardiff Research Network. This led to a collaboration with Sŵn Music Festival last autumn.
A report on this project was recently launched in the School of Geography and Planning (as one of its Impact & Engagement events). The report, entitled ‘A Spotlight on Sŵn Music Festival 2016’, was the culmination of the group’s pilot project with Sŵn Festival. It includes a whole range of contributions reporting on case studies on the performer’s journey, a research survey, and interviews of festivalgoers. It also provides information about the Sŵn Music Museum, a collaboration between the festival and the research group, with help from StoryworksUK.
Researchers involved in this interdisciplinary work included:
Dr Jacqui Mulville (School of History, Archaeology and Religious Studies)
Jerrod Seifert (School of History, Archaeology and Religious Studies)
Dr Nicole Koenig-Lewis (Cardiff Business School)
Dr Andrea Collins (School of Geography and Planning)
Dr Dimitris Potoglou (School of Geography and Planning)
Dr Sarah Hill (School of Music)
Dr Joe O’Connell (School of Music)
Sam Murray (School of Music)
Isabel Thomas (School of Music)
Dr Johann Gregory (Creative Economy team)
The launch event included presentations from the researchers in the group, as well as contributions from Professor Max Munday (Business School), Sarah Evans in the Engagement team, John Rostron (founder of Sŵn), Jon Drape (Director of Festival No. 6), Steve Muggeridge (Director of Green Gathering) and Gwilym Evans (Head of the Major Events Unit, Welsh Government).
The group is keen to hear from potential industry partners and from researchers across the University, especially if they think that their work could connect with the festival theme.
We’re delighted to welcome Lisa Matthews on secondment from the Arts Council of Wales into the role of Director of Creative Economy, as Sara Pepper’s maternity cover. Lisa brings a wealth of skills and significant experience to the team.
