Harriet Masterman is a first year student studying Law and French. Harriet’s research interests include international law and environmental law.

Megan Parker-Williams

Megan Parker-Williams is a fourth and final year Law with French student, studying across the School of Law and Politics and the School of Modern Languages. Megan is also a member of the Commercial Awareness Society, and the Lawyers Without Borders Student Division (LWOB). Megan’s primary interest area is criminal law, particularly the law of sexual offences. Under the supervision of Professor Stewart Field, Megan wrote a dissertation on the efficiency of the law on sexual offences in protecting victims in England, Wales and France in 2022. Other research interests include environmental law, specifically the law surrounding water pollution. Megan’s blog post on storm overflows and the use of SuDS can be found here.

Melissa James

Melissa James is a third year LLB law student electing to study Environmental and Commercial law. Melissa’s research interests include alternative energy solutions and the implementation of geo-engineering to assist in adaptation to the effects of climate change.

Kian Yew Nah

Kian Yew Nah is a final year LLB Law student. Kian is an aspiring barrister who is planning to pursue the Bar Training Course (LLM) in the next academic year. He has been involved in Cardiff University Climate Change and Environment Project since the second year of his undergraduate degree. Kian led a small group of students who drafted a report about the electrification of trains between Cardiff and Swansea. The project is currently drafting a report on the reforms of The Environmental Information Regulations 2004. He is taking environmental law as one of his optional modules and he has a special interest in energy law. Kian is also currently working on a dissertation in Comparative law on legal transplant between UK law and Malaysian law. Kinga Plata

Kinga Plata is a final year LLB Law with a professional placement year student. Kinga’s research interests focus on clean technology development as part of climate change law, exploring further the potential of policy decision-making to influence faster implementation of green engineering. Developments of carbon sequestration and removal are of specific curiosity. Kinga’s previous participation in a Grand Challenges project involved working on policy proposals for the Welsh Government aiming to offer an electric bus rollout as part of the scheme reshaping Wales’ public transportation. Kinga’s engagement in non-law events seeks to gain a broader understanding of climate issues, including KPMG’S Climate Change Risks for Clients examining green investing and UBIQ’S Sustainability Responses, with keynote speakers from the private sector, start-ups and the Institute for Carbon Removal Law. Kinga hopes to pursue a career as an environmental solicitor and is currently contributing to growing the student division with a blog piece on artificial tree carbon sequestration.

Sol Withers

Having completed the LLB last year at Cardiff University, Sol Withers is currently undertaking a Masters in Law with his primary focus being on Environmental and Climate Change Law. His main area of research considers the shortcomings of the recent storm overflow discharge reduction plan that the government released in August 2022, and the potential devasting impact it could have on Marine Protected Zones and large bodies of inland water systems. He hopes to pursue a career in Environmental Law after the competition of his Masters degree.
