Developing skills and capacity for engagement

10 November 2016

Colleagues across the University have been increasing skills and confidence to deliver effective, robustly-evidenced, high-quality engagement through a capacity-building programme.

During 2015/16 the programme included the development and delivery of 12 training courses, 16 downloadable resources, five case studies and the provision of bespoke support and advice for strategic bids.

The sheer volume of individuals who attended the training courses, levels of website traffic and positive feedback are a testament to the success of the programme. A new Engagement Yammer group has been launched, highlighting latest news and best practice in engagement.

During 2016/17 the engagement capacity building programme will be expanding in order to support a clear pipeline for research impact.

Ten training courses have already been planned and places are available to both academic and professional services staff. These include an engagement masterclass, a course on monitoring and engagement, a course on evidencing the benefits of engagement and a course on engaging with impact. You can find out more by visiting the Engagement intranet pages.

Thirteen downloadable resources will be developed this year, adding to the documentation already available online to help plan, support and deliver high quality engagement. These include a monitoring and evaluation toolkit, top tips for stakeholder mapping guidance and an activity planning template. Finally, a number of case studies are also being made available online, highlighting best practice in Cardiff University engagement, hopefully cascading ideas and inspiring academics to expand their engagement activities.

We hope to see you at one of our training sessions soon!
