Academia Europaea Knowledge Hub in Cardiff

We were delighted to host a visit from Professor Sierd Cloetingh, President of Academia Europaea, a prestigious non-governmental research body representing leading scientists and scholars from across Europe.  Professor Cloetingh announced AEs intention to establish a Knowledge Hub within the University to raise awareness of Welsh universities’ research excellence in order to stimulate new collaborations, inward investment and networks of expertise across Europe. AE already have existing knowledge hubs in Wroclaw, Barcelona and Bergen and the fact that they have chosen to open another in Wales only highlights the global perspective of Wales’ research community.  This builds on our outstanding performance in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) in 2014, ranking 5^th in the UK on the basis of the quality of our research. Professor Ole Petersen, Director of the School of Biosciences, will take up the post of Academic Director for the Knowledge Hub when it opens later this year.
