Insider Business and Education Partnerships Awards

5 November 2014

I had the pleasure of attending the first Insider Business and Education Partnerships Awards which recognise the impact of collaboration and innovation between universities and businesses.

The event was a huge success for Cardiff University, with two of our spin-out companies taking three of the nine awards on offer at the event.

Medaphor won the Commercialisation Award and the Investment Award for its ScanTrainer product and successful flotation on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange, while Asalus won the New Product Award for its development of Ultravision.

I’m particularly pleased that these spin outs have been recognised because they demonstrate the enormous benefit that can come from the commercialisation of our research.

Our recent announcement of the Cardiff Innovation System and a c£300M investment to transform our campus will help this University and Wales become recognised internationally as a hub for innovative and impactful research, technology transfer, business development and student enterprise.

This exciting and ambitious investment will help us turn more of our world-leading research into products and spin outs and new companies that will have a positive impact on society and the economy.
