George, International Journalism student and Marketing Intern tells us more about Global Opportunities…
Have you ever considered studying in China or Canada, volunteering at a French festival, a year abroad in Belgium or Hong Kong? There is a world of opportunity out there and it’s no secret that the university’s Global Opportunities team can talk you through the options and funding available to you. Over 20% of our undergraduate student community have already enhanced their career prospects by immersing themselves in another culture, you can too!
Come along to the Global Opportunities Fair on Wednesday 29 November, 13:00-17:00, in Y Plas at the Students’ Union to find out more about the opportunities available.
Really interested vs really unsure about what I can do and funding
In my second year, I was really interested in the opportunities that the school of journalism offered, but I was concerned about funding. After realising that much of the money can be raised around my studies and through allocated bursaries, the whole funding issue became much less of a worry.
After attending last year’s Global Opportunities Fair, many of my friends ended up travelling across the world. From San Francisco to Denmark to Toronto to Fiji, the fair really does give you an in-depth idea of the countries and opportunities available for you to visit whilst studying at Cardiff.
The Global Opportunities Fair, and then what next? It’s up to you!
The thing that I found most valuable about last year’s fair was that I had the opportunity to speak with students who have been abroad to undertake summer internships and volunteering opportunities. The Global Opportunities staff are also there to discuss your options and to talk through the range of Erasmus+, International Exchange and International Summer Programmes and anything you need to consider.
The Global Opportunities Fair is a really informal way to broaden your international outlook, see what’s available and what you may be interested in. Whether you’re an undergraduate, or a postgraduate student like me, there are plenty of opportunities at the Fair and in the Global Village to get advice from other students and staff from across the world, to taste global foods, and celebrate Cardiff University’s diversity of cultures.
From my experience the Fair is definitely worth a visit. Whether you want to find out more about the opportunities available or just want to be inspired come along to Y Plas at the Students’ Union on Wednesday 29 November, 13:00-17:00.
