The Cardiff University Student Life Fun Run 2016

Kate, Student Intern, shares the best bits of Cardiff University’s first ever Student Life Fun Run…

On the 1st October 2016 the streets of Cardiff were invaded by hundreds of students taking part in the Student Life Fun Run, a new event exclusively for Cardiff University students. The 2.4km route looped twice around Cardiff’s Civic Centre, Alexandra Gardens and North Road, so was perfect for all abilities.

Before we share the highlights, please tell us what you thought…

Did you participate in the Fun Run? If so we want to hear from you and get some feedback! Please take our short survey or leave your comments in the comment bar below.

Here’s my best bits and some great pics from the day…

A great event to celebrate our healthy community

With no pressure to run quickly or even run at all (there were even a few great dance moves on the track), the event was all about celebrating students coming together and joining in Cardiff University’s healthy community.

Did you see the Mascots?

There was a great animal presence on the track this year… and by that we mean the mascots! Here are some of the mascots who took part in the Fun Run, including Cardiff University’s own Dylan the Dragon.

The merchandise went down well

All participants walked away with a Fun Run t-shirt, a medal, water bottle and cheeky chocolate bar.

Colouring and further information about Student Support was a hit

As well as being part of the Fun Run there was an opportunity to engage with Cardiff University Student Support and receive advice from them. Students could take part in mindfulness activities such as mandala’s (the king of all colouring books – no student is too old to rekindle their love of Crayola). There was also the opportunity to find out more about all the Student Support Services. The team were also by the track cheering on the students and being pro flag-wavers.

6  lucky prize winners were happy

The first male and female finishers received £100 each in Amazon vouchers, the two second runners up £50 each and the two in third place £30 each.

The lucky (and athletically talented, of course) winners of the Fun Run for the women were Megan McBrien (1st place), Samantha Toop (2nd place) and Bryony Weavers (3rd place). The male winners were Andrew Wright (1st place), Thomas MacSwayne (2nd place) and Owen Haswell (3rd place).

Finally a big shout out and congratulations to all the students who took part in the Fun Run!

Thanks to all those who got involved – the day was a great success.
