I am Professor of Coastal Engineering, served as the Director of Hydro-environmental Research Centre (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/research\/explore\/research-units\/hydro-environmental-research-centre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HRC<\/a>), and Co-director of EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training on Water Informatics, Science and Engineering (<a href=\"http:\/\/wisecdt.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WISE-CDT<\/a>) at Cardiff University previously.<\/p>\n<p>My research interests are on physical and numerical modelling of coastal &amp; estuarine processes, particularly related to offshore sandbanks, inlet\/lagoon systems, nearshore coastal defense structures, beach nourishment and, in recent years,\u00a0modelling of large-scale waves\/tides\/surge prediction under extreme conditions, resource characterization for marine renewable energy and the impact of climate change on coasts and estuaries.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2000, I have been Principal Investigator or Co-investigator for some 22 research projects funded by various sources secured more than \u00a33m research funds, and have published more than 120 papers in international journals and conferences. My current\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000080\"><a style=\"color: #9f9f9f\" href=\"http:\/\/scholar.google.co.uk\/citations?user=yO2rJj4AAAAJ&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Scholar<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>h-index is 36 with over 4000 citations. I received the Halcrow Prize from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in 2007.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #4a5466\">Currently, I am a member of the EPSRC peer-review college, Associate Editor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/marine-science\">Frontiers in Marine Science<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/journal\/water-science-and-engineering\">Water Science and Engineering<\/a> (<span style=\"color: #000080\">WSE<\/span> \u2013 \u6c34\u79d1\u5b66\u4e0e\u6c34\u5de5\u7a0b), and a member of the editorial board of Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science,\u00a0 <a style=\"color: #9f9f9f\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theoceaneng.cn\/hygccn\/ch\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">China Ocean Engineering.<\/span><\/a>, and the committee member of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsigroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the British Standards Institution (BSI)<\/a>. Previously, I was\u00a0 an Environmental Partner member of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ciwem.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CIWEM<\/a> and served in the editorial board of the ICE Maritime Engineering Journal (2009-2012), was a Visiting Research Scientist at National Oceanography Center (formerly Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory in Liverpool).<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #4a5466\"><span class=\"bodytext\">Over the past decades, I have developed strong international research collaborations and have been frequently invited to give lectures in China, Taiwan and Japan. I have been\u00a0acting as an external examiner for PhD candidates in the UK and overseas universities, and\u00a0regularly reviewing\u00a0research proposals\u00a0for the UK and overseas research councils, as well as for a wide range of international journals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #4a5466\">I am currently leading a research team on <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/coastal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coastal Research @ Cardiff<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Welcome to my\u00a0research blog, which is intended to provide you with information related\u00a0to my academic activities, in particular\u00a0my research activities.
