Invited by Prof Jijian Lian of Tianjin University, I was honoured to present our research on modelling extreme waves and surge in the northwest Pacific Ocean region at the 254th China Engineering Science and Technology Forum hosted by Tianjin University from 20th -22nd Sept 2017. This is a high level forum regularly held in China sponsored by China Academy of Engineering, at which  prominent Academy Fellows are invited to present their most advanced research in various disciplines in engineering. Visit was also made to Tianjin Research Institute for Water Transport Engineering (TIWTE) in Tangguo, some 100km east of Tianjin, where I met the Chief-Engineer Dr Zhang and other researchers.
