{"id":4,"date":"2017-12-11T15:45:38","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T15:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/cardiff-hip-research-group\/?page_id=4"},"modified":"2024-12-12T11:21:25","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T11:21:25","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/sensor-physiotherapy-intervention-research-group\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Th<span style=\"color: #000000\">e Sensor Physiotherapy Intervention (SPIN)<\/span> Research Group incorporates a team of Clinical Engineers and Physiotherapists specialising in clinical movement science.\u00a0 This group brings together skills and experiences from both disciplines to address challenges brought about by musculoskeletal knee conditions.<\/h3>\n<h2>Mission<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The mission of the SPIN research group is to excel in research and the use of digital technology in movement science and rehabilitation, aimed at finding innovative solutions to delivering even better quality of healthcare and outcomes for those living with musculoskeletal knee conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Aims<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>To improve understanding of human movement strategies and the applications of biomechanical analysis to optimise movement assessments into clinical practice.<\/li>\n<li>To generate recommendations on how individuals with musculoskeletal knee conditions can benefit from physical exercise based on objective functional tests.<\/li>\n<li>To find innovative ways of treating individuals with musculoskeletal knee conditions using technology in the clinic and home settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 class=\"entry-title\">Facilities<\/h2>\n<p>The SPIN research group has access to laboratories with a number of state-of-the-art equipment, which enable us to complete world-class research in clinical movement analysis and physiotherapy. The following list is not comprehensive but includes our most important facility:<\/p>\n<p>We have access to laboratories with a range of state-of-the-art equipment, allowing us to complete high quality research in clinical movement analysis and physiotherapy.<\/p>\n<p>Although not an exhaustive list, equipment and facilities we have access to include:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.btsbioengineering.com\/products\/podium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BTS Bioengineering Podium Force Platform<\/a>\u00a0for force data collection, video recording and biofeedback<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/delsys.com\/trigno\/research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Delsys Trigno Wireless Electromyography (EMG) system<\/a>\u00a0including both Trigno Avanti and Duo sensors for measuring the electrical activity produced by muscles during movement<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motekforcelink.com\/product\/grail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MotekForceLink GRAIL system<\/a>\u00a0is a state-of-the-art facility for research, movement and rehabilitation assessment<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/trakphysio.org.uk\/Home\">TRAK<\/a>\u00a0is web-based tool that can be used to provide a patient-focused approach by sharing information, improving exercise prescription, accessing advice from a physiotherapist and monitoring progress<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.xsens.com\/xsens-dot\">Xsens Dot IMU Sensors<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.xsens.com\/products\/mvn-analyze\">Xsens MVN Analyze System<\/a>\u00a0that allows us to accurately measure the kinematics and dynamics of joints and body segments using Inertial Measurement Units (IMU)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.xsensor.com\/solutions-and-platform\/human-performance\/intelligent-insoles-clinical\">Xsensor Clinical Insoles<\/a>\u00a0can provide plantar pressure data for functional tasks in the lab as well as remotely<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"entry-title\">Team<\/h2>\n<p>The group is led by a clinical engineer (Dr Al-Amri) and a physiotherapist (Dr Button) and includes the following members:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/people\/view\/39305-al-amri-mohammad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr Mohammad Al-Amri (Lead)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/people\/view\/39289-button-kate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr Kate Button<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Mr Kevin Nicholas (Physiotherapist &amp;
