About us
We are a vibrant academic community which is teaching, researching and creating in order to bring new information about the Welsh language and Welsh culture to the world’s attention.
Our BA, MA and PhD students study a range of different linguistic, literary and cultural fields. The research activity of our staff is recognised worldwide and its practical impact beyond the walls of the University has received the highest possible praise in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (2014).
We are also working to secure the prosperity of the Welsh language by teaching Welsh in the community. Our Welsh for Adults department teaches more than 1,000 adults in Cardiff and the Welsh for All programme offers all Cardiff University students an opportunity to learn the language for free, alongside their studies. We also train teachers, lecturers and classroom assistants, supporting the development and improvement of their language skills through the National Sabbatical Scheme.
Our blog
This is a space for you and for us: a space to engage, to comment, to share and to question. It is an opportunity for us to create a digital community where we can discuss the latest intellectual and educational developments in the field of Welsh.
You will hear from our students, our staff and our external partners about our teaching, research and the activities we run throughout the year.
We welcome you to give your opinion on the various topics we raise as well. We look forward to the debate!
