Sunil returned to academic study after five years working in dentistry. His Postgraduate Taught Scholarship has allowed him to focus on Orthodontics, an area that has always interested him.
Can you tell us a little bit about the programme in your own words?
“As part of my MScD Orthodontic I have a clinical component where I treat patients for 4 days of my week and a research component where I will be conducting experiments relevant to orthodontics. Since starting the course we have had lectures from top academics who are well respected within their fields and based at Cardiff Dental Hospital. I have been lucky enough to be apart of an extremely welcoming and friendly team led by Consultants and Researchers. As well as being apart of this prestigious course I have also been lucky to have great course mates whom have travelled from countries such as Trinidad and Malaysia.”
What were your motivations for undertaking a postgraduate degree?
“Having worked as a dentist for 5 years and experienced working within a variety of areas within dentistry, I felt my passion was within orthodontics. Having worked alongside orthodontists prior to this course I was inspired by the amount of knowledge and hard work required to achieve such transformational result for patients.”
Why did you decide to do your postgraduate degree at Cardiff?
“I heard great feedback from current students about Cardiff’s long history of orthodontic teaching and friendly atmosphere.”
Is there anything about your postgraduate course that has stood out in your experience?
“Being in Cardiff has allowed me to make new friends and explore an amazing city that has so much to offer in terms of beautiful scenery and new culture to explore. Also the course itself has been very well run and I have enjoyed working within a great team.”
What do you think of Cardiff as a place to live as a postgraduate?
“Having only visited Cardiff once before accepting my offer to study here, I found that any apprehensions were quickly dispelled as the people of Cardiff were so friendly and welcoming. Cardiff has a big city feel within a small-sized city where there are many social events going on all the time.”
Has studying for a postgraduate degree at Cardiff University lived up to your expectations?
“No, I would say that studying a postgraduate degree has exceeded my expectations. I believe Cardiff University and the city of Cardiff to be a hidden jewel that will only get better and better.”
