Reasons to choose postgraduate study at Cardiff University

8 August 2017

We asked some of our postgraduate students why they chose to pursue study at postgraduate level and why at Cardiff University. Below is a selection of what our students had to say.

“My course at Cardiff focuses on practical application and includes a work placement at a company. This was made clear in the course prospectus and was one of the main reasons for choosing the course.”
David, MSc Data Science and Analytics

“One of the main things that attracted me to the course was how practical it was. I knew that if I wanted to work in the industry as a journalist, I would need not only the written skills but the practical ones too and having researched the course at Cardiff University, I became aware of just how practical the course is.”
Hannah, MA Broadcast Journalism

“I liked the staff and felt they were the best people to help me move forward as a historian, but the ancient history course at Cardiff also seemed like it offered a good balance of things I was interested in studying. The ease of application was also very helpful in finalising my decision!”
Andrew, MA Ancient History

“I chose Cardiff because I felt that there wasn’t another MA in Creative Writing out there as challenging as the one on offer here or that would push me so far out of my comfort zone.”
Ariane, MA Creative Writing

“There are a lot of facilities, libraries, study centres which increases my will to study in Cardiff. To conclude I strongly believe that a degree from Cardiff University, is more likely to enhances my CV and provides me a successful career path.”
Charalampos, MSc Maritime Policy and Shipping Management

“I chose to study at Cardiff because I knew of the university’s expertise and reputation and it is situated in an area very close to my specific interests: the medieval history of Wales.  As Cardiff is close enough to my home, and I’m studying on a part time basis, this fits in well with my current situation, meaning I’m able to study whereas under other circumstances I might not be able to undertake study at this level.”
Emma, MA Medieval British Studies

“During my undergraduate degree I had come to really love living in Cardiff, and all the fantastic things that come with living here. I was not yet eager to leave by any means, as I think it is a vibrant, charming and caring city, with a wealth of culture and community spirit. Cardiff University is a great university in a great location – it’s a no brainer!”
Joseph, MA History

“The Cardiff course has a strong success rate at placing students in industry to collect data for their dissertations following the taught part of the course. I have recently been hired as a placement student, and expecting to continue with a permanent contract after 5 months. I get to live in Bristol, travel around the country on several projects, and preliminary discussions on potentially going out to Africa to work on a major infrastructure project following the industrial placement. That is why I entered further education, and that, is why I chose Cardiff University.”
Oliver, MSc Applied Environmental Geology
