What have been your impressions of Cardiff University so far – starting from the application process, enrolment, induction and the start of your studies?
The application process was fairly easy to follow.
The enrolment process and induction to my studies thus far have been fantastic. There have been a few blips with the timetabling system for my research methods module, but the length that the tutors have gone to ensuring we were all aware where we needed to go for the first few weeks, more than made up for it. The course has been an interesting start to my postgraduate studies and I’m hoping the rest of my studies follow as positively as these first few weeks.
During your postgraduate studies in Cardiff are you living on campus or in private accommodation?
I’ve had to take a year off full time work to complete my studies and as my parents live in Llandaff, staying with them seemed like the easiest and most cost effective choice.
How are you funding your studies?
I was awarded a the Master’s Excellence Scholarship from Cardiff University to help complete my Physiotherapy Masters.
I looked for additional funding via my hospital charity league of friend team and also to professional bodies that I was registered with and managed to secure £1700 in total from this to help pay my tuition fees
I would suggest that prospective students discuss possible funding with colleagues that have undertaken similar masters before. For healthcare, there are many avenues to look into.
I initially applied for funding through my hospital education funds, but unfortunately our funding had been drastically cut this year due to financial constraints and so this wasn’t possible. I then looked into the professional bodies I was registered with – some will make sure you have been a member for a year or two before they will allow you to apply for funding.
I would make sure that you look through the fine print and get ready to write plenty of forms on how your postgraduate degree will benefit you/your working environment.
Why did you choose Cardiff University and Postgraduate study?
I chose Cardiff University because I wanted to ensure my postgraduate studies were undertaken in a reputable organisation and I’m aware of Cardiff university consistently ranking highly in the physiotherapy degrees.
Aside from this I was brought up in Cardiff and have family in llandaff, so the location made sense when considering finances being off work for a year.
