But new ones do appear from time-to-time, created when objects hit the surface of the red planet. That&#8217;s just what happened at some point a couple of years ago, producing one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/mars-fresh-crater-nasa-mro-photo-2019.html\">Mars&#8217; youngest craters<\/a>. Higher up in Mars&#8217; atmosphere, scientists are also learning about the role the micrometeorites play in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colorado.edu\/today\/2019\/06\/17\/meteors-help-martian-clouds-form\">forming clouds<\/a>. And how can the Moon reveal secrets about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/goddard\/2019\/feature\/nasa-scientists-find-sun-s-history-buried-in-moon-s-crust\">history of the Sun<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Closer to home, there has been controversy about once of the latest SpaceX launches, which released 60 satellites into orbit as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Starlink_(satellite_constellation)\">Starlink<\/a> &#8220;constellation&#8221;. While impressive, and part of plans for over 10,000 such satellites in orbit, there has been some opposition from astronomers, for whom satellites are a constant irritation. But to the ends (worldwide satellite internet) justify the means? Chris North and Edward Gomez discuss.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, over a million volunteers have been clicking away on the <a href=\"http:\/\/galaxyzoo.org\">Galaxy Zoo<\/a> website, part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/zooniverse.org\">Zooniverse<\/a>. Chief zookeeper <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.physics.ox.ac.uk\/contacts\/people\/lintott\">Prof Chris Lintott<\/a> explains what astronomers have discovered as a result of all this effort. It&#8217;s overturned commonly held views about the shapes of spiral galaxies, both in their beautiful spiral arms and their central bulges.
