Image credit: ESA\/M\/ Kornmesser<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>After a few weeks of rumours, the announcement of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eso.org\/public\/news\/eso1629\/\">discovery<\/a> of an Earth-size (maybe!) planet around the Sun&#8217;s nearest neighbour has caused quite a stir. The planet is more massive than the Earth, but probably not by much, and sits in a location where liquid water could (at least in principle), exist on it&#8217;s surface. The detection was made by an international team using data, and relied on observations from a number of telescopes around the world. One of those was the <a href=\"http:\/\/lcogt.net\">Las Cumbres Observatory<\/a>&#8216;s network of telescopes, working as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/palereddot.org\">Pale Red Dot<\/a> campaign, as <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/zemogle\">Edward Gomez<\/a> explains in this month&#8217;s episode.<\/p>\n<p>Proxima b isn&#8217;t the only story. There&#8217;s also the happy news of the re-awakening\u00a0of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/goddard\/2016\/nasa-establishes-contact-with-stereo-mission\">STEREO-B<\/a>, a solar observatory that dropped offline a couple of years ago and has finally responded to NASA&#8217;s hails (more on that\u00a0from <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/soundslikescience-634253849\/sounds-like-science-stereo-recovery-special\">Sounds Like Science<\/a>).
