One was India&#8217;s first mission, the Mars Orbiter Mission, while the other was NASA&#8217;s MAVEN spacecraft. MAVEN&#8217;s goal is not to study the surface of the planet but its atmosphere,\u00a0with the aim of determining\u00a0how it is changing and how it may have changed in the past.<\/p>\n<p>One of the leading experts in the Martian atmosphere is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atm.ox.ac.uk\/user\/read\/\">Professor\u00a0Peter Read<\/a>, based at\u00a0the University of Oxford.
