STEMlive 2017
19 October 2017James Blaxland and Rhodri Williams represented and promoted the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at STEMlive on the 18th of October 2017 at the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff.
The event aimed to show the breadth and diversity of careers that are open to those studying science and math’s subjects at school.
At the start of the day students received a briefing from actors welcoming them to a training camp for a mission to build a new colony on mars, the School of Pharmacy reinforced the need for new drugs in space and the potential rise of bacterial infection.
They gave each school a 20 minute interactive demonstration explaining microbiology, bacterial resistance, virology and chemistry.
The event was attended by 12 schools across SE Wales bringing a total of 160 year 8 students (12-13 years old) with 25% of the students from Welsh medium schools.
Students enquired about the role of pharmacists, microbiologists and chemists and showed an interest in these areas as future careers.
