Pharmabees Win Cynnal Cymru Sustainability Award

20 December 2017

The Pharmabees team have scooped another award recently, winning the Sustainable FE/HE Institution 2017 prize from Cynnal Cymru (Sustain Wales). They beat out tough competition from Swansea University and Bridgend College. Pharmabees, who are setting up the first bee-friendly university in Wales, are helping sustainability by planting flowers around the city for bees to feed off.

Bee numbers have been in decline in recent years and they are vital to the survival of the planet, so making food more readily available will hopefully help boost their numbers. At the same time, the Pharmabees team are looking to harvest their honey in an attempt to find new antibacterial properties to combat antibiotic-resistant microbes.

The event took place at the Senedd on November 30th and was attended by many leading activists driving change to make Wales a better place. Before the awards Cynnal Cymru hosted a round table event where innovators could get together to discuss future ideas of how to make Wales more sustainable.
