To celebrate the first day of International Open Access Week 2019<\/a> we\nhave put together a special edition of our OA infographic focusing on the last\n12 months. International Open Access Week is a global, community-driven week of\naction to promote the opening-up of access to research. The event, celebrated\nby individuals, institutions and organizations across the world aims to raise\nthe visibility of scholarship, and to accelerate research and its application. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since last year\u2019s Open Access Week, we have added over 5,600\nnew full text research articles to the Cardiff University repository ORCA<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We facilitated Gold OA for over 10% of these articles, allowing anyone with an internet connection to read the full text immediately on publication. Gold OA was funded through the UKRI OA block grant (46%), the Wellcome Trust\/COAF OA block grant (31%), and the University\u2019s Institutional OA fund (23%). \u00a0All other full text journal articles added during this period will become Open Access via the Green route, with the full text becoming publicly available in ORCA when the publisher\u2019s embargo period expires. We have also added over 450 new PhD theses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
