{"id":445,"date":"2017-12-06T15:57:05","date_gmt":"2017-12-06T15:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cardiffunioa.wordpress.com\/?p=445"},"modified":"2022-04-13T20:32:54","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T20:32:54","slug":"innovative-publishing-platforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/openaccess\/innovative-publishing-platforms\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovative new and emerging publishing platforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The landscape of scholarly publishing has seen an increase in new publishing initiatives providing new avenues for publishing research outputs.<\/p>\n<p>In October we posted an <a href=\"https:\/\/cardiffunioa.wordpress.com\/2017\/10\/26\/wellcome-open-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introduction to Wellcome Open Research<\/a>, the world\u2019s first funder-based publishing platform. The platform is open for all research projects being undertaken at Wellcome ISSF funded institutions, allowing eligible authors to publish their research for free &#8211; Wellcome will centrally cover any APCs.<\/p>\n<p>Wellcome Open Research has helped to encourage other funders, organisations and institutions to launch their own publishing platforms, and recent announcements have been made by <a href=\"https:\/\/gatesopenresearch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/aasopenresearch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">African Academy of Sciences<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/hrbopenresearch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Irish Health Research Board<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mniopenresearch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Montreal Neurological Institute<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/childhealthopenresearch.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The increased growth of new University Presses over the last few years is also providing a broader range of publishing opportunities for authors and editors.
