Every October, Ada Lovelace Day shines a spotlight on the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Named after Ada Lovelace, who is widely regarded as the world\u2019s first computer programmer, the day celebrates the pioneers who broke new ground and the women who inspire us today.<\/p>\n
Ada Lovelace Day isn\u2019t just about history; it\u2019s about sharing stories, amplifying voices, and inspiring the next generation. Role models play a huge part in shaping STEM journeys, often in quiet but powerful ways.<\/p>\n
At Cardiff Medicentre, we work with innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs who are pushing boundaries in healthcare and biosciences. Many have been inspired by women in STEM, so this year, we invited our community to share the women who\u2019ve inspired them most.<\/p>\n
One colleague reflected on the legacy of Jane Goodall, whose groundbreaking work and advocacy continue to shape global conversations:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe recently deceased Jane Goodall, who showed me how one woman’s voice can create a movement for change in STEM.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n For another, inspiration started closer to home:<\/p>\n \u201cMy mum\u2019s a maths teacher. From an early age she taught me to look for patterns \u2013 in numbers, in problems, in the way things work. It\u2019s something that\u2019s shaped everything I do.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Another spoke of how inspiration comes from a range of places:<\/p>\n “As Ada Lovelace Day is celebrated, we look forward to wider recognition of the unique contributions and insights of women and girls in STEM for improving health, wellbeing and economic prosperity at all levels of society. I am fortunate to have worked with some amazing women over the past 30 years who have inspired me and who have taught me the value of recognising alternate points of view.”<\/em><\/p>\n These reflections capture what Ada Lovelace Day is all about: the ripple effect of inspiring women, whether global figures or the people who shape our everyday lives.<\/p>\n At Medicentre, we celebrate innovation in all its forms.
