Welcome back to the MAGMA blog! It’s been a while since the last post mostly due to members of the team having a break over the summer.<\/p>\n

We did, however, have the opportunity to take part in the Cardiff Subatomic Circus<\/a> in Cathays Park on 18th August 2021. This was part of the Summer of Smiles<\/a> series of events aimed at children over the summer. The MAGMA team worked the Stephanie Bevan at the Institute of Physics<\/a> for the event.<\/p>\n

As you can see from the photo, we had a series of small demonstrations set up for the event which we could show to the attendees. These included a magnetic train<\/a>, magnetic music, a magnetic motor, ferrofluids<\/a>, fun fly sticks<\/a>, and floating objects<\/a>. The links show some examples of these on YouTube.<\/p>\n

In total, there was an estimated 1500 attendees throughout the day and the team had a great time showcasing some fun examples of what magnets can do. The event was a great success and we hope the attendees enjoyed it as much as we did.<\/p>\n

In other news, we are happy to announce that our lab refurbishments have been completed and our furnace is up and running. Our lab development manager has recently written a guest post on the ‘Cardiff University Home of Innovation’ blog with further details on our lab’s capabilities.<\/p>\n
