LEDS Session 5 – Weds 19th February – ethics in linguistic ethnographic fieldwork

13 February 2020

Welcome back to LEDS! After a busy start to the new semester, we have three exciting LEDS meetings coming up during February and March.

Next Session – Session 5

Our next meeting will be this coming Wednesday 19th February in Room 2.04 of the John Percival Building (a change from our usual venue). The topic is ethics in linguistic ethnographic fieldwork.

In this session, we will reflect on some of the key ethical dimensions and dilemmas facing researchers engaged in ethnographic fieldwork, through discussion of a ‘Coffee and Cocktails’ academic chat podcast about ethics in ethnographic fieldwork (https://soundcloud.com/coffeeandcocktails/ethics-in-fieldwork). Judith will facilitate the discussion, but please listen to the podcast before the session (or as much of it as you can manage) and bring your notes and reflections along.

Other Upcoming Sessions

In the following Session 6 on 4th March, our regular member Rachel Stubley will be sharing with us some insights into her ongoing research into writing and identity in post-compulsory teacher education (details to follow shortly). Then on 25th March in Session 7, we are delighted to welcome a guest speaker from Vienna University of Economics and Business, Dr Almut Koester, to explore some fascinating intersections between linguistic ethnography and corpus linguistics in her ongoing research project in UK care homes. Please see our Meetings Schedule for details/abstract links.

Please contact Judith with any questions, and/or with suggestions for topics for our meetings after the Easter break. We look forward to seeing you all soon for enriching discussions on all things linguistic ethnography-related!
