Dan arweiniad Dirprwy Gyfarwyddwr y Ganolfan, sef Dr Abdul-Azim Ahmed<\/a>, diben y prosiect yw ceisio dogfennu ac adrodd “stori” Islam yng Nghymru a gwneud hanes Mwslimiaid yng Nghymru yn hygyrch i academyddion, y cyhoedd yn ehangach, a Mwslimiaid Cymreig eu hunain, er mwyn ehangu dealltwriaeth y cyhoedd o Gymru amlddiwylliannol ac aml-grefydd.<\/p>\n Ymhlith y siaradwyr ar y noson roedd Jane Hutt CBE<\/a>, Ysgrifennydd Cabinet Cymru dros Gyfiawnder Cymdeithasol; Yr Athro Damian Walford Davies<\/a>, Provost a Dirprwy Is-Ganghellor Prifysgol Caerdydd; a sylfaenydd Cyngor Mwslemaidd Cymru, yr Athro Saleem Kidwai OBE. Cynhaliwyd y digwyddiad dan gadeiryddiaeth Mariyah Zaman, sef Prif Swyddog Gweithredol Now in a Minute Media, sef cwmni sydd wedi bod yn un o\u2019r prif bartneriaid yn y broses o gyflwyno\u2019r Prosiect Hanes Islam yng Nghymru.<\/p>\n Jane Hutt yn cerdded drwy’r arddangosfaBu i Jane Hutt, Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet, ganmol pwysigrwydd y prosiect, a\u2019r ymchwil a wneir gan Ganolfan Islam-y DU, gan ddweud \u201crydyn ni mor ffodus eich bod chi yma yng Nghaerdydd, yn ein Prifysgol, ac yn cael cymaint o effaith.\u201d Gwnaeth y Dirprwy Is-ganghellor Damian Walford Davies groesawu\u2019r arddangosfa, gan fynegi \u201cpa mor falch ydw i, o\u2019r hyn sydd allan yna, yr hyn rydyn ni wedi\u2019i gyflawni yma, yr hyn y mae Prifysgol Caerdydd wedi\u2019i gyflawni\u201d, a chan estyn \u201cdiolch i\u2019r Sefydliad Jameel a\u2019r Ganolfan Astudiaethau Islam yn y DU\u201d.<\/p>\n Mae\u2019r arddangosfa yn daith weledol gyfareddol i hanes Mwslimiaid yng Nghymru, ac mae\u2019n cynnwys map sydd newydd ei gomisiynu o\u2019r cysylltiadau Mwslemaidd ac Islamaidd \u00e2 Chymru. Yn ogystal \u00e2\u2019r arddangosfa ffisegol, mae e-lyfr digidol o allbynnau\u2019r prosiect<\/a> wedi\u2019i greu gan Swyddog Datblygu\u2019r Ganolfan, Mark Bryant, sy\u2019n caniat\u00e1u mynediad hawdd i ganfyddiadau\u2019r prosiect. Mae\u2019r e-lyfr yn cynnwys posteri\u2019r arddangosfa, dolenni i fideos a darlithoedd esboniadol, a llyfr llawn lluniau, sy\u2019n cynnwys y lluniau hynny a gafodd eu cyflwyno i\u2019r gystadleuaeth ffotograffiaeth yn 2022 ar y thema \u201cIslam yng Nghymru\u201d er mwyn lansio\u2019r prosiect.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Mae\u2019r prosiect yn datgelu hanes cudd Mwslimiaid yng Nghymru, o dr\u00f6edigion Fictoraidd cynnar, i sefydlu Caerdydd yn un o\u2019r cymunedau Mwslemaidd cynharaf ym Mhrydain. Mae hyn yn adeiladu ar waith ein Cyfarwyddwr, yr Athro Sophie Gilliat-Ray<\/a>. Fel y mae hi\u2019n ei grybwyll yn ei gwaith arloesol, Mwslimiaid ym Mhrydain<\/a>, nid yn unig y mae \u201cdylanwad diwylliant ac ysgolheictod Islamaidd ar gymdeithas Saesneg yr Oesoedd Canol\u2026 yn aml yn cael ei ddiystyru,\u201d ond mae \u201cnatur Islamaidd amlwg\u201d yr wybodaeth hon hefyd yn aml cael ei herio, gan greu bylchau a distawrwydd yn ei chylch. Mae’r un peth yn wir yn achos cysylltiad y gymdeithas yng Nghymru ag Islam, ac mae prosiect Dr Ahmed yn cynnig ateb pwerus.<\/p>\n Caiff yr arddangosfa yn Adeilad Morgannwg ei chynnal tan ddiwedd Ionawr 2025.<\/p>\n On Thursday, 7 November 2024, the Islam-UK Centre launched a new exhibition in Cardiff University’s <\/span>Glamorgan Building<\/span><\/a> on the findings of the <\/span>Islam in Wales History Project<\/span><\/a>. Inattendance were members of the Welsh Muslim community, civic and faith leaders, as well as members of Senedd.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The project led by the Deputy Director of our centre, Dr Abdul-Azim Ahmed<\/a>, seeks to document and tell the \u201cstory\u201d of Islam in Wales and make the history of Muslims in Wales accessible to academics, the wider public, and Welsh Muslims themselves, so as to broaden public understanding of a multicultural and multireligious Wales.<\/p>\n Speakers on the evening included Jane Hutt CBE<\/a>, Welsh Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice; Professor Damian Walford Davies<\/a>, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff University; and, founder of the Muslim Council of Wales, Professor Saleem Kidwai OBE. The event was chaired by Mariyah Zaman, CEO of Now in a Minute Media, who have been key partners in the delivery of the Islam in Wales History Project.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Cabinet Secretary Jane Hutt commended the project\u2019s importance, and the research of the Islam-UK Centre, saying \u201cwe\u2019re so fortunate that you\u2019re here in Cardiff, in our University, and having such an impact.\u201d Deputy Vice-Chancellor Damian Walford Davies welcomed the exhibition, expressing \u201chow deeply proud I am, of what is out there, what we have achieved here, what Cardiff has achieved\u201d, and \u201cthank you to the Jameel Foundation and thank you to the Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The exhibition is a captivating visual journey into Muslim history in Wales, and includes a newly commissioned map of Muslim and Islamic connections with Wales. As well as the physical exhibition, a <\/span>digital e-book of project outputs<\/span><\/a> has been produced by Centre Development Officer, Mark Bryant, allowing easy access to the project findings. The e-book features the exhibition posters, links to videos and explanatory lectures, and a book of entries to a photography competition on theme of \u201cIslam in Wales\u201d in 2022 to launch the project.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The project reveals the hidden Welsh history of Muslims, from early Victorian converts, to the establishment of Cardiff as one of the earliest Muslim communities in Britain. This builds on the work of our Director, <\/span>Professor Sophie Gilliat-Ray<\/span><\/a>. As she remarks in her seminal work on <\/span>Muslims in Britain<\/span><\/i><\/a>, not only is \u201cThe influence of Islamic culture and scholarship on medieval English society \u2026 often \u2026 underestimated and downplayed,\u201d but the \u201cdistinctly \u2018Islamic character\u2019\u201d of this knowledge is also often contested, creating gaps and silences. The same is true when it comes to Welsh society\u2019s engagement with Islam, and Dr Ahmed\u2019s project provides a powerful remedy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The exhibition at the Glamorgan Building will run until the end of January 2025.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A groundbreaking new exhibition on Islam in Wales is launched at Cardiff.
