{"id":4994,"date":"2021-07-17T20:12:39","date_gmt":"2021-07-17T20:12:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/islamukcentre\/?p=4994"},"modified":"2026-04-13T09:35:34","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T09:35:34","slug":"two-videos-islamic-responses-to-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/islamukcentre\/two-videos-islamic-responses-to-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Two videos: Islamic Responses to COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two lecturers on staff at the Islam-UK Centre were among the scholars invited to a day-long virtual conference at the beginning of July. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwtsd.ac.uk\/staff\/gary-bunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prof. Gary Bunt<\/a>, who runs the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.virtuallyislamic.com\/index.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.virtuallyislamic.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Virtually Islamic<\/a> website and studies online expressions of Islam and Muslims, hosted the event at University of Wales, Trinity St David. Including scholars from around the world, the event featured reflections on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic for Muslims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/people\/view\/72994-ali-muhammad-mansur\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/people\/view\/72994-ali-muhammad-mansur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dr Mansur Ali<\/a>, Lecturer in Islamic Studies, shared a paper on the migration of religious and spiritual rituals to the online spaces during lockdown. &#8220;E-Majlis: Nikah, Tarawih and Hadith audition during Covid-19 lockdown&#8221; considered the transformation of online spaces to a majlis when physical attendance in traditional religious spaces was not permitted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aided with tools of various fatwas, Ali considers the validity of Skype Nikah, virtual Tarawih, and wireless Hadith audition. He clustered his analysis around three broad themes that emerged: Muslims reported to blame for the virus&#8217;s spread, to suffer from it, or to help fight it.
