Dr Mansur Ali – Shifting discourse in the Muslim organ donation debate: reports of finding

The Human Transplantation Act (Wales) 2013, otherwise known as the ‘Law of presumed consent’ has caused a panic in the Muslim community. There are concerns that this law will interfere with religious sensibilities and dignity of the body in Islam. Based on a very small-scale research, the speaker explores some of these concerns. He argues that the organ donation debate in Islam is slowly moving towards charitable acceptance and not only tolerance out of necessity. He also touches upon how the body, death and dying are conceptualised in Islam.
