How are we all? Excited that it’s almost Easter? I know I am, a break from lectures is just what the doctor ordered, it will give me a chance to crack on with the dissertation which is due in a few weeks after (scary thought!) But it definitely feels like there is a lot to do before that deadline in May! This month has been super busy, as it usually is this time of year, we’ve had a joint honours open day in music, performances of Cardiff University Operatic Society’s The Fairy Queen, some really great concerts, Cardiff Award hand-in, and my application for postgraduate study!

The final joint honours open day was last week and because of the degree the application process for music is slightly different than a BMus application. For a full music degree application (BMus) applicants are invited to the school of music for an audition, interview and participate in a workshop. I think this process is really valued in the school of music and from organising the UCAS days for the past two years I’ve learnt that not many other universities ask for their applicants to audition, so I think that the fact Cardiff University School of Music does is a real testament to its reputation and degree standard. The joint honours application differs slightly in the way that applicants aren’t auditioned but they are still invited to the university to meet the admissions tutor and students and raise any questions they might have as well as have a look around the music department. On the subject of open days, the University-wide open day is next wednesday (25th March) and I can’t stress how important these open days are when applying. The open days give you a chance to have a look around the campus and get a feel for the vibe, meet lecturers and students (who are able to give you a first hand account of university life) and ask questions you might have. If you are seriously considering applying to Cardiff University I’d say the open days are a must!

Last weekend saw Cardiff University Operatic Society’s production of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen which was a real tour-de-force and showcased the talent of not only the music department but the entire university. I’ve really enjoyed observing the finished product of the operatic society and will be sure to make an effort to return to see their productions!

As I mentioned in my previous blog, the hand in for the paperwork for the Cardiff Award and now the final task for it is the presentation for employers which I’m doing next week. I’ve really enjoyed working on the Cardiff Award and feel I have gotten a lot out of it and so I’d definitely recommend it to students considering doing it.

One of the most exciting pieces of news I have this month is that I’ve finally submitted my application for an MA course in Theatre Studies at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama for 2016 entry. I’ve managed to get an interview in May, so fingers crossed – watch this space!

Wishing you a great, stress-free (hmm) Easter!!
