Cardiff is well known for its excellent nightlife, but often less thought of is the equally great selection of cafes. While Wetherspoons is a great hangover remedy for any student, this list is for you if you want to try somewhere new and local while you recover from the night before. If you’re new to Cardiff and looking for a place to fill up, then this list is for you.<\/p>\n

Cafe 37<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Cafe 37 was my local hangover brunch on Salisbury Road for the entirety of my 3-year degree. While some may mistakenly raise their nose at the home-comfort style of this non-artisan cafe, I vouch for its comfortable atmosphere, great wifi and affordable American-style pancakes. Their vegetarian breakfast is off the scale for a hungover morning and the casual music adds to the atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Metchy’s Cafe & Bar<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Located on Cathays Terrace, just opposite our beloved local Lidl, Metchy’s is at the heart of the student community. Metchy’s is open every day of the week from 8 am, waiting to fulfil your brunch needs. The menu varies from the classic ‘uni breakfast’ to pizzas, salads, burgers and even a delicious mezze option.<\/p>\n

Blossom Cafe<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Located on Wellfield Road in Roath, Blossom Cafe is a great stop-off for brunch while enjoying a mooch around the local shops and a walk to Roath Park. The Cafe itself offers a cosy atmosphere, decorated with florals, as per the name. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and, if you can nab a seat by the window, it is perfect for people watching. There is a great mix of standard dishes (think English Breakfast, toast, coffee) and items with a delicious and unique twist (think Rose latte or blossom pancakes).<\/p>\n

Servinis at the Summerhouse<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The perfect option for a quick snack and drink in the sunshine as you wander around Bute Park and refresh your senses after your night out. Servinis is great to enjoy a cup of tea and a fresh cake, sandwich or even ice cream while overlooking the river Taff. The Summerhouse itself is inspired by an original summerhouse<\/a> which was built on the grounds of the Bute family and was eventually moved to St Fagans National History Museum.<\/p>\n

Wyndham Cafeteria<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Located in Wyndham Arcade, Wyndham Cafeteria is the ultimate spot in the city centre to find a cosy nook and enjoy a delicious brunch of locally sourced food from Cardiff’s own Indoor Market. Specifically, consider the blueberry pancakes a brunch of choice, but the menu has a variety of breakfast and brunch options available.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Elmers Take a Break Cafe<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Rated the best restaurant in Cardiff on TripAdvisor in 2019,<\/a> this local cafe on Crwys Road is the essence of a cafe in my hometown where I would go for brunch with my Nan after a mooch around the shop. It has a feeling of a classic cafe with a traditional menu. Affordable for a student’s budget, the cafe offers a variety of tea and coffee, omelettes, jacket potato, burgers and multiple breakfast options.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
